Germany's Sustainability Award for Design – Our Packaging Reaches the Final

In collaboration with Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG, rose plastic has designed a circular packaging solution made from 100% post-consumer recycled material (PCR). Würth entered this packaging in the Design category of the German Sustainability Award where it is now competing in the final.

Two market leaders, one project: In cooperation with our customer Würth, we are proving the viability of recyclable packaging solutions. These are made from 100% post-consumer recycled material (PCR), which is essentially reprocessed plastic waste from private households – collected in the distinctive “yellow sacks”.

Thinking today about tomorrow
We are clear in our recycling policy: We don't pick and choose what we use which is why everything inside the “yellow sack” is reprocessed. The fact that the packaging made from reprocessed plastics is gray and has a slight odor is not an issue for us. On the contrary, it shows that sustainability really matters to us.

But how do we actually develop sustainable packaging? Sustainability practically starts at the drawing board, by planning a product's lifecycle from the start to its end. There are several factors to consider in the process. One thing is clear: By using PCR, we are breathing new life into old plastic to ensure a circular economy. However besides the material, the weight of the packaging also plays an important role because the lighter the packaging, the less resource consumption and therefore a benefit for the environment. What is more, most of our packaging consists of only one type of plastic. We thus ensure that it can be recycled into high-quality materials at the end of its useful life.

Exciting until the end
We have also been awarded with the "Blue Angel" environmental label for our PCR products from the Ministry of Health in Germany. The "Blue Angel" is as a buyer's guide to product sustainability. It is the environmental label of the Federal Government in Germany and was introduced in 1978.

We are particularly proud that our packaging is among the finalists competing for the German Sustainability Award for Design. And it shows us that we are steering the company in the right direction with the processes and projects we endorse. We are excited for 2 December 2021 when the winners of the prize will be announced in Dusseldorf.

The German Sustainability Award is the national award for excellence in sustainability in business, municipalities and research and is the largest prize of its kind in Europe.
